Cheering

Our neighbor, Marie, has been in a nursing home for the past two months, and this is her first Sunday back at our house for dinner. She and Grandma were talking all about the nursing home, and then Grandma says,
"Well my friend up there (in the nursing home) finally died.
So that's good."

She looks at all of us, to see if we were happy too.
I was the only one that cheered.

I'm confused... Marie died? Or someone else? Whoever it was, I'm happy for them.

Grandma's friend (not Marie) died. The only reason she mentioned it (as far as i could tell) was because Marie, who had just come from that nursing home, was at dinner, jogging Grandma's memory.

I can't see how the death of a friend is a good thing...but I'm sure Grandma appreciated the cheer.

I'm so proud of you. Death is the final accomplishment of life and when someone makes it all the way to having to wear diapers again the release from such should always be applauded!
