Anniversary Party

I don't know if you know, but my life here in Chicago is a little bit surreal sometimes. By surreal I mean my work is the subject of a reality show on VH1 airing at the end of March. You should watch it and probably see me every once in a while accidentally making a dumb face at the camera, yawning, or eating something really messy.

Anyway, one of our last evening filming sessions was the celebration of eDrop-off's anniversary. It was a cool party because it was mostly only coworkers, which I liked. I enjoy being able to invite my friends to events, but if everyone has their peeps there, you always have to be watching out for them, making sure you don't lose them, introducing them to people.  It can be hard work. Anyway, the following pictures are of my coworkers and you will probably see the film crew as well.

PS, this was one of my first nights using my new iPhone for picture taking purposes. It was also the first night that Natasha tried to ask Siri something and Siri politely responded, "I'm sorry, I don't know who you are." I like that Siri, because I like loyal friends.

Fashion's Night Out

In case you haven't been keeping track, September was a few months ago. Fashion Night Out (because you know all about it) was in September. Naturally I went (thanks work! and thanks for the VIP swag bags!) and it was tons of fun. My coworker and I jumped in a cab after work and first headed down to Saks on Michigan where we went to celebrate Brian Atwood's more affordable (read: still not affordable) shoe collection

I LOVED the DJ. I don't know who that guy was but he was amazing. So I requested that Christy take a photo of me with the DJ in the background. Do any of you recognize him? Any idea what his name is? I don't have a lot of DJing needs, but I wouldn't mind knowing his name.

Our favorite shoes from the new collection

They also had models wearing the most stunning pieces. I don't know how models do it, man. They must have been exhausted. When we didn't actually spy Brian, we went up to the 900 Shops to meet up with the rest of our coworkers and some of my friends. Look! Friends:

Ombre Day

I've been into ombre for the past two weeks. I  painted my nails blue ombre, and I painted my eyelids blue-purple ombre this morning. My coworkers noticed, and they snapped this shot:

Yup; that's what I look like when I'm at work. Sleepy. Actually, I closed my eyes for the benefit of the shot. You're welcome.

But then. But then! Suddenly I remembered the rad ombre shoes I've been wearing, so naturally those had to get in the shot as well.

It's all just another day at work.

P.S. If you enlarge the photos you'll really get an idea of how ombre I really am. It's pretty serious, this ombre stuff.

P.P.S. Today I had the pleasure of receiving a root canal. Does one side of my face look puffier than the other?

Work Fun

Last week my work hosted a party at a local bar as a finale party for a charity auction we had on our eBay store. (Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants had donated clothes they wore on the show to benefit the American Red Cross). Anyhoo, at the pre-party Diana and I got our hair and make-up done, and we met our friend Lindsy at Rockit. It was so much fun, and the mini burgers and fries they had at Rockit were simply divine. My work can be pretty fun sometimes. I mean, I don't mind it.

Another Great Day

Today I had a leisurely wake up time, hung out on the interwebs, practiced some new hair braiding techniques,  got ready for work, then went with a coworker to the best Thai buffet in Chicago. "Best" means delicious and $6.99. After discussing many things, including the plot line to The Lord of The Rings (seriously, I don't understand that book), and our activities for the evening (I'm going to a RS party, she is going to an outdoor viewing of The Lord of the Rings with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra playing the soundtrack), we stumbled out of Diva Thai and waited for our bus to work.

Work was chillax. Relatively. Do you remember how I said that maybe we would be getting a reality TV show? Well, we did, and we've been filming for the past week now. So, we have another staff running around the office, capturing our every move. (Interesting side note: When they first showed up, they were wearing all black. However, the next time I saw them, it appeared they have been instructed to show up in roughly the same dress code we do. Their application of our dress code is pretty funny. At least they try.)

We have an event in the 'burbs tonight. A new Ann Taylor is opening, and we were invited. All of the peeps going to that had their hair done, and the publicity company sent pizza over. Soon the chartered bus rolled up. (Last week we charted a trolly to a charity event with Molly and Trista from the Bachelor and Bachelorette.) Everyone asked me if I was going to the event, but I told them I had a Relief Society event to go to. Because of the Ann Taylor event, we stopped working at 4.

As I was walking to my vacation home around 4:30 (I have been living with Diana for the past week), I ran through my day in my mind. It's been pretty good. I like this life. I have nothing that must occupy my brain tonight. My only stress right now is trying to finish The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie before Diana realizes I stole it from her.

It's a good life.

Ridiculously Good Summer

So it's not 100% sure, but there is a good probability (can you call something "good probability" if it isn't 100%?) that my work will get it's own reality TV show. The concept is to follow my boss around and chronicle her life, and there is a chance I might get my face on camera, who knows. Just thought I should tell you.

Supposedly, they are coming back to film more of the pilot at the end of this month (they started filming before I got hired) and as long as everything goes smoothly, they will film this summer and air it this fall.

I find it all rather ridiculous, and I love things that are ridiculous, so I think it will be a good summer.

The Roller Shade

My desk at work is very close to a window. This afternoon when I went to sit down in my chair, I rolled a bit and lightly bumped into the window covering. It sprang off its track and tumbled down on me. I was fine, and after closer inspection, all the pieces of the roller mechanism were in good condition. If nothing broke, I should be able to pop that thing back up there, right?

Right.

I love stuff like this. Little puzzles. I love it. I quickly figured out how this particular shade worked and where everything would fit. However, there was one piece that I could not get on. I knew exactly where it needed to go, I just couldn't figure out how to get it there. While I'm playing with this piece my coworker comes up to me, sighs, shakes her head and says in an oh-silly-Myriah voice, "You need some help with that?"

No. My answer is no. I'm doing just fine, thank you very much. Also, this thing fell on me, which means I get the pleasure of solving this puzzle. DO NOT take that away from me.

Outwardly I said, "Uh, sure."

She took over and I went back to work. Back to work in the space that she was now occupying, which made things a little cramped and a little difficult to completely ignore her and not worry about the outcome of the window shade like I had promised myself when I said, "Uh, sure."

But I cared! I wanted to be the one to put it back together! So I looked with bated breath as she said, "Oh, I know what the problem is, we are missing a piece!" And then she looked around for the missing piece. I found it my duty to point out to her that we were not missing any pieces, and if she wanted proof of my statement, she could look at the other properly assembled window shade on the next window over. Yup, we had an example.

We went through this rigmarole a total of three times. Finally, she got the window shade up and said, "There, it's up!"

I looked over with jealousy burning in my eyes and said, "What's that piece on the file cabinet?"
All jealousy gone.
Exasperation setting in.

"Well I got it up, didn't I?"

"Yes, but it's not complete."

"Well, I can't get that piece on. It's impossible. This is good enough," and she walked away.

After about 20 seconds of unsuccessfully pretending I didn't care, I sprang up and said, "Can I give it another try?" Like I'm some meek, small-willed person. Yeah right. GET OUT OF MY WAY SO I CAN FIX THIS THING! Within a minute I had it all figured out. All the pieces were in their proper place, and the shade works fabulously.

I will rest well tonight.

Truth Can Do That

Do I look young?

Today my coworker told me she thought I was nineteen or twenty. When I told her how wrong she was, she was honestly quite surprised. Since I was about twenty-three, I have found that people consistently guess my age as about three years younger than is correct. These sorts of guesses come from people who are both younger and older than me, so I don't think it's a generational thing. Also, I never ask people how old I am, I hate that. Why put someone on the spot like that? It's silly. So, these people that have guessed at my age have done so because they were so surprised when the truth was discovered that they simply had to divulge their inmost thoughts. Truth can do that to people.

Well? Do I look my age?
