Happ...

Tonight was a very festive dinner at the Cohen house.

First: the Olympics. We love the Olympics, and we were glued to the TV all night. Second: Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day adds a general festive mood, but the children were super excited about all the candy and hearts. Third: Grandma's birthday.

Yup, that's right, tonight we celebrated Grandmother being around for another year. During a commercial break we lit the candles and started singing to Grandma. We started singing with gusto, "Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happ..." And then she blew out the candles.
Everyone stopped singing to giggle, but we pulled it together to finish the song.

Later Grandma asked why we had started laughing. She said, "Was it because I blew out the candles too early? But I got it all in one blow. It's been so long since I've blown out candles that I guess I forgot."

Mariah,
Guess what? South Koreans hate Apolo Anton Ohno! According to our students, he is the worst cheater in the history of the Olympics. Apparantnly he was involved in some pushing with a South Korean, and he benefitted from some South Koreans falling? It was unclear to me if my students were talking about the current games, or the last ones or both, and since I don't follow speed skating I had no idea what they were talking about.
What are they talking about?

Oh man, your students keep up on current events! There is certainly some history between the Koreans and Apolo, that's for sure. Plus, if they didn't take each other out the other night, he wouldn't have hit the podium.

I personally don't think my beloved Apolo did anything wrong, but I guess if you are nine and living in South Korea, he is probably the worst thing ever.
